Aktion T4

1933- Sterilisation- disabled people were no longer allowed to have children

October 1939- doctors working for the Nazi Party were ordered to carry out Euthanasia.

  • Those with severe disabilities were targeted

  • The Nazis carried out the program to cleanse German society

  • They thought that the disabled were socially useless as they couldn't work

  • They also believed that care for the disabled cost too much money and it could be spent on helping the poor.

  • German children (babies to teenagers) were given lethal injections and their bodies were burnt. One man in charge of the programme joked about their ashes being used as fertiliser.

  • Parents were told that their children had died of natural causes, but many were suspicious as they never got to see their bodies.

  • Around 300,000 disabled people were killed by the Nazis
