As a result of the failing war, Nazi opposition increased.

• The Edelweiss Pirates

          - Began attacking Nazi officials and officers

          - Sang anti-Nazi songs

          - 700 were arrested and 12 hanged in Cologne after they killed the gestapo chief

• The White Rose Group

          - Published more anti-Nazi leaflets

          - Marched through the city in protest

          - Leader was beheaded by the guillotine

• The July Bomb Plot

          - A group of army officers who tried to kill Hitler

          - A briefcase bomb was placed near him, however, he was shielded from the blast by the large wooden meeting table

• Swing Youth and Jazz Youth

          - Rejected Nazi values by drinking alcohol and dancing to jazz music (considered degenerate 'Negro music')
