1933- Sterilisation- disabled people were no longer allowed to have children
October 1939- doctors working for the Nazi Party were ordered to carry out Euthanasia.
Those with severe disabilities were targeted
The Nazis carried out the program to cleanse German society
They thought that the disabled were socially useless as they couldn't work
They also believed that care for the disabled cost too much money and it could be spent on helping the poor.
German children (babies to teenagers) were given lethal injections and their bodies were burnt. One man in charge of the programme joked about their ashes being used as fertiliser.
Parents were told that their children had died of natural causes, but many were suspicious as they never got to see their bodies.
Around 300,000 disabled people were killed by the Nazis
